Synopsis:

Poker Face has more twists and turns than a large intestine. From the opening pages, the audience goes on a wild romp of mystery, murder and gambling: all the necessary ingredients for a romantic comedy.

The character of Dolores “Dee” Drake, is quickly established: no shy butterfly here. Before we can get a handle on this hard-drinkin’, swearin’ and gamblin’ woman, she is handcuffed and hauled off to the Atlanta Midtown Police Department where we learn she is a detective on sabbatical. Dee Drake is called upon to handle a case undercover outside her jurisdiction – in Las Vegas, Nevada. Apparently her reputation as an accomplished card player, specifically poker, precedes her. Her mission: to investigate the death threats to casino owner Jelly Belly Booth, while posing as a poker-playing patron.

Jelly Belly Booth runs a tight ship with a huge, successful entourage in one of the largest casinos in Las Vegas. His flamboyant, magnanimous nature makes him friend to every man, so it is with much consternation and fumbling by the Vegas PD when he is shot to death shortly after Dee Drake accepts the assignment. He is to reappear, in the form of Jelly Belly’s twin brother, Benny Bailey Booth, who seemingly survives his well-known, well-loved brother.

Dee Drake catches a plane to Vegas with her best friend Jackie Washington and entourage in tow, just about the time Jelly Belly Booth is gunned down through a bulletproof booth in his own casino. Chaos ensues when it is revealed that the masked gunman who enjoys a clean getaway, is actually not who he appears to be, and in the employ of Jelly Belly.

Jelly Belly’s top security is helmed by the gorgeous Matt Reid, working undercover with the Vegas PD. Matt is aware of Dee Drake’s involvement with the case, but remains incognito, slowly and assuredly falling in love with her. He’s the man who will put Dee Drake on a course she’s not taken before.

In the meantime, a murder is to be solved. Nothing is, as it seems.
